Hi,

First time poster here. I was recenly given an AVP-1 as a gift and am in the process of incorporating it into my studio setup. I'm running Pro Tools LE 8 via an Mbox2. Prior to the AVP-1 I was connecting my Mic directly to Input2 on the Mbox. I've since added a Behringer pre-amp after the mic as it's my understanding that the AVP-1 can not accept mic level inputs. However, after running cables from the Mic to the Pre-Amp to the AVP-1 to the Mbox, it sounds like the audio is very distorted. Changing presets seems to help sometimes, but it's all over the board. Am I doing something wrong?

Welcome to the board, Jason. Check the input level on your AVP-1. Is it hitting above -3? Try to keep the input level between -6 & -12. To adjust the level, reduce the gain on your pre-amp. Simply turning down the input volume on the AVP-1 will not change the fact that the signal is too hot.

If you are keeping the input between -6 & -12 and you still notice distortion, then the unit may be malfunctioning. In this case, contact Antares tech support at techsupport@antarestech.com in order to resolve this.
Thanks. I'll be trying that in a bit. I spent a good deal of time today playing with Mic-PreAmp-Mbox2 (completely removing the Anatares) just to make sure I had the pre-amp adjusted correctly. The sweet spot seems to be between -6 and -12 coming out into the Mbox, which has the input volume set to about 45% or so. This is with the warm/limiter vocal setting on the Behringer. One question I did have about this - Once the signal exits the pre-amp, do I need to use the Mic or Line input on the mbox for a better sound? I know the AVP only accepts a line level input, so perhaps its the same in this scenario too? Once I have this set correctly, I'm planning on resetting the AVP and then running the signal as you suggested. I'll report back on the levels.

Thanks again for the help thus far.

Jason
Once the signal exits the pre-amp, do I need to use the Mic or Line input on the mbox for a better sound?

So the basic setup should be:

Mic -> Preamp -> AVP-1 -> Mixer (or Audio Interface)

Adjust the pre-amp so that the AVP-1 is around -6 to -12, turn down the volume on your M-Box if you you see the meter on your AVP-1 going above this (you'll see a red light in the meter).
