Antares Community

Hey, I just got the sweet EFX Vocal Suite pack as an early Christmas present (thanks, Antares, for the combo!), and I'm having issues with Harmony EFX's MIDI functions.

Issues = no matter what I select, every MIDI mode in Harmony EFX seems completely blind to any MIDI input from Garageband '08. Garageband shows the MIDI coming in, but the plugin acts like it's not there. MIDI omni, chord by MIDI, MIDI channels... nada. zip. zilch.

Anyone have Harmony EFX's MIDI functions working in GB? Antares lists '08 and '09 as fully compatible hosts, so I'm not clear on what I'm missing...

Advice, please!

Thanks,

- Jesse

Welcome to the board, Jesse. I'm not sure if Garageband allows MIDI routing into audio channels. I'd be interested in knowing what Apple says about this.
Well, if any Antares plugins' MIDI functions don't work in Garageband, why on earth would they list GB '08 and '09 as being certified compatible hosts? They have other programs on that list that they specifically say don't support MIDI, but they say nothing about GB... and they've had almost 2 years to simply add a note about GB '08 if MIDI didn't work in it.

If true, this is false advertising, and is not at all appreciated. I specifically bought Harmony EFX for its MIDI features, and I don't know what recourse there is to pursue a refund, but I'm seriously considering asking for one if I can't get this to work.

I totally feel your frustration but trying demo versions is important when investing in any software. It would be wise to get the final word from Apple. I doubt Antares intentionally mislead you.
I got an e-mail from Antares, and they told me officially that GarageBand does not allow their plugin to have MIDI routed to it, and they have now modified their "fully compatible hosts" page to reflect the fact that their plugins' MIDI functions do not work in GB.

So, question answered. If you want a real instrument plugin to be able to listen to MIDI input, you have to upgrade to Logic. GB cannot do it, and I have been unable to find any suitable workarounds in a week or so of intensive searching. All MIDI rerouting solutions still require a MIDI-aware host, and GB's real instrument tracks just don't seem capable of hearing MIDI no matter what you do.
