I'm using Sonar 8.3 and I'm trying to use the Harmony Engine in any of the midi modes. I can send MIDI to Harmony Engine with my controller but when I try to control it using a MIDI track, it only gets some of the notes. (very few) All of the harmonies sounded fine when I was recording the MIDI tracks with my keyboard controller, but when I play back the MIDI track, only some of the notes are audible. It sounds like it was being clipped by a noise gate...or that it's not receiving full velocity,. but I've maxxed out the velocity to 127 on the notes and the MIDI velocity sensitivity setting is at 100 on the plugin.

I've attached 2 files. The first file was recorded while I was recording the MIDI track via my controller. Notice that all the notes are playing (albeit poorly)

The 2nd file is the MIDI track that I recorded playing back in CHORD VIA MIDI mode.

Anyone have this issue?

Welcome to the board, Joe.

Sounds like you might have some other automation going on. Check the volume controllers in Harmony Engine EVO to see if there is any movement. If so, remove the automation through Sonar.
Sorry I can't help yet.  I'm new. BUT HOW DID YOU SEND MIDI TO THE HARMONY ENGINE.  I CAN'T GET THAT FAR.  I have Sonar 8.5.2.

I'm not getting midi sent to HE either, Jonathan.  I've configured HE as a synth in Plugin Manager as instructed and HE still does not show up in the menu when you want to insert a synth to send midi to.

I wrote Tech Support on Monday about this and nothing back so far.

So...good luck.

Well, misery loves company.  Please let me know when you hear from Tech Support.

Well, I did just hear from them now and guess what:  They think it's SONAR's fault.

Surprise!

(This is the only plugin of many--a number of which I have configured as syth--that doesn't work).

I think I'll download the EVO demo and see if IT works.  A little more money, but that way I get to circumnavigate the finger-pointing.  (The SONAR folks were no help either...)

EVO does work.  I had the demo, but I got 3 EFX products for the price of the HE EVO.  I guess it was not quite as good a deal as I thought.

I made it work!  When I installed it, I did it as as VST not RTAS.  When I asked Sonar to "insert" from the "insert" menu, I had to go down to select "VST plugins".  There it was.  I set it to make a track folder, make a midi track and an audio track.  Once the plugin was made, I added three midi tracks to the folder for a total of 4.  Each of the four voices in HE is on it own midi channel.  The first voice on the left (not the input voice) is on channel 1, the second is on channel 2, and so on.  You have to program each of the midi tracks to go to a different channel and set "default" as the part.  Then I sang into the HE audio track.  I then had to record each midi track separately.  I ended up with some beautiful harmony when I used the "midi channels' mode and the "midi omni" mode.  I am guessing that there is a way to record all the midi tracks at the same time, but I haven't gotten that far.  I'll get back to you if I figure it out.

If you choose "midi channels" mode, you can play up to four part harmony onto one midi track and HE will work.
