Please Help
I'm running Garageband '11 (Finder 10.6.8), and my Mic Mod EFX (AU) appears to be correctly installed but Garageband doesn't recognize it at all. I worked with Sweetwater yesterday for an hour and all we could conclude is that perhaps there's a compatibility problem???
Thanks in advance for any advice. Having to buy an Ilok (which increased the price of the plug-in by almost 50%) and the time it's taking to get Mic Mod to even be recognized is starting to affect my interest in the product .

1.) To make sure that you have the AU version installed on your system follow this path:
MacHD/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components
Here you should find Mic Mod EFX and all of your other AU plug-ins.
2.) If Mic Mod EFX is installed and GarageBand still can not find the Mic ModEFX plug-in please try the following:
On your MAC computer follow this path:
MacHD/Users/(Your login)/Library/Caches/com.apple.audiounits.cache
Please delete the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" file. This is the cache file for Audio Units and by deleting it will make GarageBand rescan all of your plug-ins next time you start it. GarageBand should now be able to find Mic Mod EFX.

As for Part 1, it's there with my other AU plug-ins

Are you using MAC OS X Lion by any chance? If you are, in order to locate the Library folder (which is hidden under Lion) you will have to do this.
Hold down the "Option/Alt" key and click on the "Go" menu in your "Finder". Once the menu drops down you will see the "Library" in this menu. Click on "Library" and follow the path:
Caches/com.apple.audiounits.cache
Then delete the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" file.

I'm using GarageBand '11 Version 6.0.4 (427.84) on a Mac OS X Version 10.6.8
This may be a dead chain, but I thought it would be worth a shot. From reading the back and forth between you two, I think I have a similar-ish problem. I had some songs mixed on Garageband on my friends computer. He used a bunch of pluggins, then gave them to me in a file. The File is "Waves" and inside it you find "GTR 3.5", "Utilities", "Waves Plug-Ins", and "Waveshells"
I've tried putting this whole folder in Plug-ins> Components. I've tried only putting the "Waves Plug-Ins" folder in Audio>Plug-Ins. And I've tried a couple other combinations as well. Nothing works. I tried deleting the "com.apple.audiounits.cache" file, then retrying the combinations, because of what you, Henrik, say here. "make GarageBand rescan all of your plug-ins" sounded right. Nothing happened.
I'm a novice and would appreciate any direction.

I can see Library and the cache folder etc. However, the file you mentioned is just not there. Is there any command stroke or process within Garageband 11 to have it rescan all of my plug-ins?
Permalink Reply by Tim Orsi on November 17, 2011 at 8:01am Hi Henrik, I discovered I was going straight to Library under MacHD, instead of through MacHD/User/Library/Cache etc. (my bad -- your advice was spot on) I found the file and deleted it and Garageband 11 rescanned, recognized the AU but keep coming up the following message (actually I was able to use Mic Mod for a little while last night): Today's message whilst loading Garageband 11:
Failed to load Audio Unit "Mic Mod EFX". Please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assisstance.
Mic Mod appears in my pull down AUs for a track but today comes up with that message. BTW yesterday I downloaded the newest version . . . I think. Anyway, I prefer to resolve this on the forum . . . you're doing a great job helping me and I like the forum to be able to follow it. Thanks again for your rapid responses
Tim

This sounds like an authorization issue.
You will most likely have to update your "Client" software and "Driver" for your iLok USB Smartkey. You will find these two installers here:
http://ilok.com/download-ilok-software.html
Try to install these two files and I think you will be up and running.
