I am checking out Mic Mod EFX, and my mic - Behringer B1 - is not listed.  It is a large (1") diaphragm condenser with flattish response and FET circuitry.

Anybody have a clue as to what parameters I should look at or guidelines I should use to match this to one of the models in Mic Mod EFX?

Hi, for mic's that aren't listed we offer the "Generic" option.  For the B1 try the "Large Diaphragm Condenser" in the drop down menu.  Alternately you can look at mic spec. sheets for a modeled mic that has a similar response to the B1.  One great thing about Mic Mod EFX (and any plugin, for that matter) is that you can experiment with different settings to achieve the sounds you like.

Thanks for the quick reply Antares Crew!  In light of your answer re spec sheets, if you don't mind my drilling down a bit, a more specific restatement of my question would be "when comparing spec sheets, which parameters (freq response, pattern, hardware type, *other*) are your algorithms most sensitive to?"   I would gather from the answer above that frequency response is, unsurprisingly, most critical - but if there's more nuance to it than that I'd love to hear about it.

We measured and modeled all of the parameters you mentioned & more:  response, pattern, proximity effect, etc.  To answer your question, there are many nuances which are modeled but you could focus on frequency curves for the purposes of choosing a source mic.

 

Again, feel free to experiment.  Some users report running their entire stereo mix through two instances (L & R) of mic mod for some unique spectral shaping ;)
