I used Kantos 1.0 years ago, and also won a free copy of Microphone Modeler in a little Kantos composition contest that Keyboard magazine put on sometime around 2001-2002.

I did some really cool things with Kantos, but haven't been able to use it in years due to constant problems from the software copy-protection.  Now that I've upgraded to Windows 7 it's probably a lost cause.  Technically, there's a pretty good chance the VST plugin would still work in Sonar, it's Pace Interlok that would be the problem.  Back before USB dongles, Pace installed kernel-mode drivers that caused all sorts of lockups, blue screens, etc.  I think the iLok dongle resolved those problems but Kantos was never updated to use it.
Anyway, I still have the Antares boxes sitting on my shelf, so that I can look at them (particularly Kantos) and reminisce about how cool it was.  So close.... yet so far away.  There hasn't been anything like Kantos since then and I miss the new creative avenues it gave me.

Since the legacy products aren't supported anyway, and they're almost 10 years out of date, maybe they can be open sourced?  Or at least unlocked?

please?

I understand your frustration, Jason. Kantos was a unique product. Making it open source wouldn't make much sense since Antares probably uses the same technology in their other plug-ins so allowing that source out would be a nightmare. Unlocking it could be an option but, as much as you say you won't, people will barrage Antares with support requests. Plus, the plug-in, having old technology, probably won't work on newer operating systems.

I was running Auto Tune 5, which isn't nearly as old as Kantos, and it had incompatibilities with Windows 7. So now Antares would be faced with unlocking the software then recoding it to run on a newer platform-- and, in a few years, run into the same issue with next Windows release and the saga will continue.

Bottom line is, if there's a demand for it, they'll bring it back. So it's a good thing that people like to voice their feelings about things like this.
I am also a former Kantos user who lost access to it a few years back when I upgraded from Windows XP. It's the only legacy software I've lost access to that I really miss. There isn't anything to replace it that I know of, it was completely unique. As a paid and registered customer, the frustration of knowing the software is there but unusable is pretty intense.
